Anamneses

/ˌænæmˈniːsiz/ noun

Definition

Plural of anamnesis; a patient's report of their medical history or the process of recalling and recounting past medical events.

Etymology

From Greek anamnesis 'recollection' (ana- 'again' + mnesis 'remembering'). The term was used by Plato to describe remembering knowledge from previous lives, later adopted by medicine to mean taking a patient's history.

Kelly Says

In medicine, taking a patient's anamnesis is actually a form of detective work—doctors listen carefully to how patients describe their symptoms and history to find clues about what's wrong, making the conversation itself therapeutic.
