Ananthropism

/ænˈænθrəpɪzəm/ noun

Definition

A philosophical or religious view that opposes human-centered thinking or rejects human values as the measure of all things.

Etymology

From Greek 'an-' (without) + 'anthropos' (human) + '-ism' (doctrine, belief). It literally means the belief system centered on denying human primacy.

Kelly Says

This is the philosophical opposite of anthropocentrism—while most of us live human-centered lives, ananthropism asks: what if rocks, rivers, or ecosystems matter just as much as people? It's gaining traction in environmental ethics!
