Anglian

/ˈæŋɡliən/ adjective

Definition

Relating to England or the English people, or specifically referring to the ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdom of East Anglia.

Etymology

From Latin 'Anglii' (the Angle people) plus the adjective suffix '-an.' The Angles were one of the three Germanic tribes that invaded Britain in the 5th-6th centuries, settling in what became East Anglia.

Kelly Says

The Angles were Germanic warriors from what's now southern Denmark and northern Germany—their name is where 'England' comes from, and they mixed with Saxons to eventually create the 'Anglo-Saxon' culture.
