Definition
Not experiencing hunger; having no desire to eat; satisfied.
Etymology
From Old English 'an-' (not) + 'hungry' (experiencing appetite for food). This archaic or dialectal form represents an older way of negating the word hungry before modern English settled on the 'not hungry' construction.
Kelly Says
While 'anhungry' sounds funny to modern ears, it actually follows the same pattern as real words like 'unhappy' and 'unkind'—it's just that English speakers decided to abandon this prefix for the word hungry, probably because it sounded too clunky!
