An extinct even-toed ungulate mammal from the Eocene epoch, smaller than a deer with simple teeth and no defensive horns or tusks.
Etymology
From 'an-' (without) + 'hopla' (weapons) + 'ther' (beast), coined in the 19th century by French paleontologist Michel Félix Adolphe Coquebert de Montbret to describe these defenseless fossil animals.
