Definition
The point in the sky directly opposite to the apex, or the direction from which an object appears to be approaching.
Etymology
From Greek 'anti-' (opposite) + Latin 'apex' (peak or tip). The term emerged in astronomy to describe the counterpoint to the apex direction, particularly used in discussing stellar motion and celestial mechanics.
Kelly Says
When astronomers watch stars move across the sky, they can figure out which direction our solar system is traveling by finding the 'antapex'—it's like the point everything seems to be coming from, opposite to where we're heading!
