Antapology

/ˌæntæˈpɒlədʒi/ noun

Definition

A counter-apology or a defensive response to an accusation; alternatively, an apology for something opposite to what was originally apologized for.

Etymology

From Greek 'anti-' (against/opposite) + 'apology' (defense or expression of regret, from 'apologize'). A rare term that describes reversing or countering an apology.

Kelly Says

In heated arguments, someone might give an 'antapology'—where instead of saying 'I'm sorry I yelled,' they say 'I'm sorry you were offended' (which isn't really apologizing at all!)
