Definition
A decorative tile or ornament placed at the edge of a roof to hide the ends of roof tiles, commonly used in ancient Greek and Roman architecture.
Etymology
From Latin 'antefixus' (fastened before), from 'ante' (before) + 'fixus' (fixed). Originally an architectural term for fixed ornaments on rooflines.
