Antelope

/ˈæn.tɪ.ləʊp/ noun

Definition

An antelope is a fast-running, deer-like animal with slender legs and usually horns, found mostly in Africa and parts of Asia. Many species live in herds on grasslands and savannas.

Etymology

From Old French 'antelop', from Medieval Latin 'ant(h)alopus', possibly from a Greek word for a mythical horned animal. Over time it became the general name for several real species.

Kelly Says

Antelopes are speed specialists, evolved to survive in wide-open spaces where hiding is hard. Their whole body—long legs, light frame, wide eyes—is a design for 'see danger early, then run like crazy'.
