Anticynic

/ˌæntɪˈsɪnɪk/ adjective

Definition

Opposed to or rejecting cynicism; showing a belief in human goodness and sincerity.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + cynic (one who distrusts human motives), derived from Greek 'kynikos' (dog-like, from 'kyon' meaning dog). The prefix anti- was added to mean opposing cynical attitudes.

Kelly Says

An anticynic is someone who still believes people are fundamentally good—the opposite of someone like Diogenes the Cynic who lived in a barrel and mocked human values. In our cynical age, anticynics are kind of heroic!
