Definition
A class of medications used to treat depression and other mood disorders, typically by altering neurotransmitter levels in the brain.
Etymology
From Greek 'anti-' (against) + Latin 'deprimere' (to press down) + '-ant' (agent). Agents against depression.
Kelly Says
Antidepressants help rebalance brain chemistry — they're not 'happy pills,' they're more like adjusting a thermostat that got stuck too low.
