Antipodal

/ænˈtɪpədəl/ adjective

Definition

Located on the exact opposite side of the Earth or sphere; relating to places that are as far apart as possible on a globe.

Etymology

From Greek 'anti-' (against) + 'pous' (foot), literally meaning 'with feet opposite.' The term originally referred to people living on opposite sides of Earth who would have their feet pointing toward each other.

Kelly Says

If you could dig straight down through the center of Earth, you'd reach a place antipodal to where you stand! New Zealand is nearly antipodal to Spain, which is why they're on opposite sides of the world despite seeming randomly placed on a map.
