Antiqued

/ænˈtɪkd/ adjective

Definition

Made to look old or to resemble an antique; given an artificial aged appearance through special finishing or restoration techniques.

Etymology

From antique (adjective/verb) plus -ed. In verb form, 'to antique' means to make new things look old, creating a past participle 'antiqued' that describes the result.

Kelly Says

Antique furniture makers perfected the art of lying—'antiqued' wood is actually new but treated to LOOK ancient. It reveals something funny: we want the APPEARANCE of age and authenticity, sometimes more than the real thing.
