Antitank

/ˌæntiˈtæŋk/ adjective

Definition

Designed, equipped, or intended to destroy or defend against military tanks.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + tank (the military vehicle, named from its resemblance to a liquid tank). This military term emerged in World War I and solidified during World War II.

Kelly Says

Antitank weapons created an arms race: bigger tank armor meant heavier guns needed, which made tanks slower, which made them more vulnerable—this cycle still drives military design and shows how 'winning' a technology arms race can paradoxically weaken you.
