Antithesis

/ænˈtɪθəsɪs/ noun

Definition

Antithesis is the exact opposite of something, or a direct contrast between two ideas.

Etymology

From Greek "anti" meaning "against" and "tithenai" meaning "to set or place." It literally means "a setting against," as in placing one idea directly against another.

Kelly Says

In writing and speeches, antithesis is a powerful tool: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Our brains love opposites side by side because the contrast makes ideas stick like mental Velcro.
