Apokatastasis

/ˌæpɔkətæsˈteɪsɪs/ noun

Definition

In theology, the final restoration or reconciliation of all things, especially the belief that all souls will eventually be saved.

Etymology

From Greek apo- (back, again) + katastasis (establishment, arrangement). The term emerged in early Christian theology, particularly in Origen's writings about universal salvation.

Kelly Says

Early Christian theologians like Origen believed in 'apokatastasis'—that even Satan and demons would eventually repent and be saved—a view that scandalized the Church but shows Christianity's earliest wrestle with ultimate mercy.
