Definition
An appendix is a small tube-shaped organ attached to the large intestine, or a section at the end of a book that gives extra information.
Etymology
From Latin "appendix" meaning "something attached," from "appendere" (to hang upon). Both the body organ and the book section are seen as add-ons to the main part.
Kelly Says
Your body’s appendix was long called “useless,” but now we think it may store helpful gut bacteria. The book appendix and the body appendix share the same branding problem: easy to ignore, but sometimes very important.
