Apport

/ˈæpɔrt/ noun

Definition

In spiritualism, an object that supposedly appears or is transported mysteriously during a séance, claimed to be moved by supernatural forces.

Etymology

From French apport, from apporter 'to bring' (from Latin ad + portare). The term entered English in the 19th century during the spiritualism movement's height.

Kelly Says

Victorian spiritualists claimed apports—objects mysteriously appearing during séances—proved spirits could move physical matter; it was one of the 'tricks' mediums used (and modern magicians have explained how they faked them!).
