Definition
An extremely foolish person; someone of supreme stupidity.
Etymology
From 'arch-' (chief, supreme) and 'dolt' (a stupid person), from uncertain origin—possibly Old Norse or related to 'dull.' This is vulgar or informal speech, typically found in satirical or humorous writing rather than formal discourse.
Kelly Says
It's wild how prefixes let us calibrate insults—'dolt' alone won't cut it, so 'archdolt' appeared in English satire to express maximum contempt, and it works because 'arch-' automatically signals 'supreme wrongness.'
