Atheists

/ˈeɪθiɪsts/ noun

Definition

People who lack belief in the existence of gods or deities. Individuals who maintain that no divine beings exist.

Etymology

From Greek atheos meaning 'without god', combining a- (without) and theos (god). The term was originally used as an insult in ancient Greece, but was reclaimed as a philosophical position during the Enlightenment.

Kelly Says

Ironically, early Christians were called 'atheists' by Romans because they refused to worship the traditional pantheon of gods - the label has been a moving target throughout history, often applied by dominant religions to minority beliefs!
