A large breed of chicken with black feathers that originated in Australia, valued for laying lots of brown eggs.
Etymology
From 'Australorp' as a breed name, blending 'Australasian' or 'Australian' with an unknown second element, possibly 'Orpington' (another chicken breed). The breed was developed in early 20th-century Australia.
