Definition
A condition where a parasitic organism can complete its entire life cycle on a single host plant, without needing multiple different hosts.
Etymology
From Greek 'auto-' (self) and 'oikos' (house/home), literally 'living in one's own house.' The term emerged in parasitology in the late 1800s to describe parasites that don't require host alternation.

While most parasites are picky about their hosts and need to jump between different plants to survive, some fungi and insects mastered the ultimate hack: doing everything on one plant. It's like finding a restaurant so good you never need to eat anywhere else!
