Etymology
From Turkish 'baklava,' possibly derived from Mongolian 'baγla-' meaning 'to tie up' or 'to pile up,' referring to the layered construction. The dessert spread throughout the Ottoman Empire and became a signature sweet across the Middle East and Mediterranean.

Baklava's paper-thin filo layers create a mathematical marvel - a single sheet can be stretched so thin you can read through it, and traditional recipes use up to 40 layers! The dessert was so prized in the Ottoman palace that it was prepared by special chefs and served only on religious holidays.
