Becolor

/bɪˈkʌlər/ verb

Definition

to color or tint something; to give color to.

Etymology

From 'be-' prefix plus 'color'. This verb formed the logical pattern of other 'be-' verbs meaning 'to cause to have the quality of' the following noun.

Kelly Says

Medieval and Renaissance English speakers created hundreds of these 'be-' verbs that mostly vanished, but if becolor had survived, we might use it instead of the simpler 'color' today.
