Definition
To form small balls or balls of fiber on fabric (pilling); to cover with pills or pellets.
Etymology
From 'be-' prefix + 'pill' (from Latin 'pila', a ball). The verb describes both the textile defect of pilling and the general state of being covered in pill-shaped objects.
Kelly Says
Your favorite sweater gets 'bepilled' after washing—it's a real textile problem that deserves a word as funny as the 'be-' verbs were to Shakespeare.
