Biblic

/ˈbɪblɪk/ adjective

Definition

Of, relating to, or contained in the Bible; biblical (often used as a variant or archaic form).

Etymology

From Latin 'biblicus,' derived from Greek 'biblion' (book). The form 'biblic' is an older variant of 'biblical' that appears occasionally in English texts, particularly in older publications.

Kelly Says

English has both 'biblic' and 'biblical'—why? It's because scholars in the 1600s hadn't standardized yet, and both forms made sense grammatically. Eventually 'biblical' won out, but 'biblic' survives in dusty old books.
