Definition
An isolation exercise targeting the biceps muscles by flexing the elbow to lift a weight (dumbbell, barbell, or cable) from extended arm position to contracted position. The movement involves curling the weight toward the shoulder.
Etymology
From 'bicep' (the two-headed arm muscle) + 'curl' (the curving motion of the exercise). The term became standard in bodybuilding culture in the mid-20th century as isolation exercises gained popularity.
