Definition
The process of making something white or pale; the cooking technique of briefly boiling then cooling vegetables (gerund/present participle).
Etymology
From 'blanch' plus the '-ing' suffix forming both the gerund (noun) and present participle (verb form). The gerund allows us to name the process itself.
Kelly Says
'Blanching' shows how the '-ing' suffix transforms an action into something you can think about—'to blanch' is what you do, but 'blanching' is the process itself, which you can study, teach, or improve.
