Definition
A humorous mistake or embarrassing blunder, especially one caught on film or audio; or in baseball, a weakly hit fly ball that lands for a hit.
Etymology
From 'bloop' (onomatopoeia) plus the agent suffix '-er'. The term emerged in the 1950s, initially from radio and television blunders, then extended to baseball terminology.
Kelly Says
Blooper reels became a beloved entertainment format because humans love seeing powerful people (actors, athletes) make mistakes—it's oddly comforting and reminds us we're all fallible!
