Blue supergiant

/blu ˈsupərˌdʒaɪənt/ noun

Definition

An extremely massive, hot, and luminous star with surface temperatures of 20,000-50,000K that appears blue in color. These are among the most massive stars known, typically 20-90 times the mass of the Sun.

Etymology

From Old French 'bleu' (blue) + 'super' (Latin for above/beyond) + 'gigant' (from Greek 'gigas', meaning giant). The term emerged in the early 20th century as astronomers classified stars by color, size, and luminosity.

Kelly Says

Blue supergiants are the cosmic equivalent of living fast and dying young - they burn through their nuclear fuel so rapidly that they only live a few million years before exploding as supernovae! Rigel in Orion is a famous example, shining with the power of 120,000 Suns.
