Definition
A blueberry is a small, round, dark-blue fruit that grows on a bush and is often eaten fresh, in desserts, or in jams.
Etymology
The word simply combines “blue” and “berry,” describing its color and type. It follows an old English pattern of naming fruits by color plus “berry,” like “blackberry” and “strawberry.”
Kelly Says
Despite the name, the inside of a blueberry is often more purple than blue. The word shows how strongly we name things by their outer appearance, even if the inside tells a slightly different story.
