Definition
A perennial grass found in wetlands and meadows of North America, with distinctive blue-purple coloring in its stems.
Etymology
From 'blue' (referring to the blue-purple tint of the plant's joints or nodes) and 'joint' (the segments or nodes of the grass stem where leaves emerge).
Kelly Says
Bluejoint grass is crucial for North American wetlands because it can survive in waterlogged soil where other grasses can't, and it's a favorite food for migrating waterfowl and moose.
