Definition
A smaller type of bombarde or early cannon, used in medieval and Renaissance military campaigns.
Etymology
From French 'bombardelle', the diminutive form of 'bombarde' using the suffix '-elle', meaning a smaller or lighter version of the larger cannon.
Kelly Says
The '-elle' ending made it a 'cute cannon'—literally smaller versions of the terrifying bombarde, though still destructive enough to change medieval siege warfare forever.
