Boundary

/ˈbaʊndəri/ noun

Definition

A real or imagined line that marks the edge or limit of an area, activity, or idea.

Etymology

From “bound,” meaning “limit,” plus the suffix “-ary,” which forms nouns and adjectives. It grew from talking about land limits into describing emotional and social limits too.

Kelly Says

A boundary can be a fence, a border, or just a sentence like “I’m not okay with that.” The same word that once only fenced off land now fences off personal space and mental health.
