Brahma

/ˈbrɑːmə/ noun

Definition

In Hinduism, the god of creation and the originator of the universe; also a large breed of chicken originally from India.

Etymology

From Sanskrit 'brahman,' the ultimate reality or absolute principle in Hinduism. The chicken breed was named 'Brahma' because it was imported from Asia and the name carried associations with the ancient Indian origin.

Kelly Says

The word 'Brahma' comes from Sanskrit and refers to one of the most important concepts in Hindu philosophy—yet most people know it as a type of big chicken! This shows how religious and philosophical terms travel around the world and sometimes end up in completely different contexts.
