Definition
A bulletin is a short official announcement or news report, often about something important or urgent. It can also be a regular printed or online sheet with updates for a group or organization.
Etymology
From French “bulletin,” from Italian “bollettino,” a small “bolla” or official document, from Medieval Latin “bulla,” meaning “seal” or “official stamp.” It originally meant a brief official statement.
Kelly Says
The root of “bulletin” is the same as “bull” in “papal bull”—a document with an official seal. Every modern news bulletin is a tiny descendant of royal and church announcements stamped with wax and authority.
