Bullring

/ˈbʊlˌrɪŋ/ noun

Definition

An arena or enclosure where bullfights are held; a place where bulls are fought by matadors for entertainment.

Etymology

From 'bull' + 'ring' (circular enclosure). Spanish 'plaza de toros' became known in English as bullring, the term standardized in the 1800s as bullfighting became known internationally.

Kelly Says

Spanish bullrings are architectural marvels—some like Las Ventas in Madrid are massive circular amphitheaters holding 25,000 spectators, designed with precise geometry for the dangerous dance of matador and bull.
