Definition
Plural of bunt; in baseball, hits where the batter strikes the ball lightly without swinging fully; also ships' flags of specific colors.
Etymology
From 'bunt' in baseball (origin obscure, perhaps from the hitting motion), and separately from 'bunt' flags (from German 'Bund' meaning 'league'), two unrelated words.
Kelly Says
It's wild that 'bunts' means two completely different things—a baseball move AND colorful flags used by ships—they sound alike but came from totally different languages!
