Bushi

/ˈbuːʃi/ noun

Definition

A member of the warrior class in feudal Japan; a samurai or nobleman engaged in martial service.

Etymology

From Japanese 武士 (bushi, literally 'warrior'), ultimately from 武 (bu, 'military') and 士 (shi, 'gentleman/samurai'). The term entered English in the 19th century.

Kelly Says

The bushi class eventually became the samurai—and the samurai code of bushidō literally means 'the way of the warrior,' one of history's most famous ethical systems!
