Cabriolets

/ˌkæbriəˈleɪz/ noun

Definition

Plural of cabriolet; light two-wheeled horse-drawn carriages with a folding hood, or modern convertible automobiles with the same design inspiration.

Etymology

From French cabriolet (leap), derived from cabriole. The carriage got its name from its springy, bouncy suspension that made it feel like the vehicle was leaping along the road.

Kelly Says

The cabriolet was the 'sporty convertible' of the 1700s and 1800s—rich people loved them for their speed and open-air thrills, just like modern drivers love convertibles today!
