Definition
Roasted young goat meat, a traditional dish in Spanish, Mexican, and other Latin American cuisines; also, a young goat itself.
Etymology
From Spanish cabrito (young goat), diminutive form of cabra 'goat.' The culinary term became especially prominent through Mexican and Southwest cuisine, where cabrito is a celebrated traditional dish.
Kelly Says
Cabrito al pastor—roasted young goat—is considered a delicacy in Northern Mexico, and the same word works for both the living animal and the cooked dish, like 'lamb' in English!
