Caffeic

/kæˈfiːɪk/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or containing caffeic acid, a plant compound found in coffee, tea, and many fruits and vegetables that acts as an antioxidant.

Etymology

From caffeine with the chemical suffix -ic, referring to an organic acid discovered in coffee. Though named after coffee, caffeic acid is actually found in many plants and is distinct from caffeine itself.

Kelly Says

Despite its name, caffeic acid doesn't actually contain caffeine—it's a completely different compound! It's found throughout the plant world and your body actually prefers it because it doesn't give you the jitters but still provides antioxidant protection.
