Calendula

/kəˈlɛndʒələ/ noun

Definition

A plant of the marigold family with bright orange or yellow flowers, often used in medicine and cosmetics for its healing properties.

Etymology

From Latin calendula, possibly from calendae (calends/first day of the month) because the plant bloomed around the new moon or beginning of months. Medieval healers called it 'plant of the calends.'

Kelly Says

Calendula has been used as a healing herb for over 1,000 years—medieval monks grew it in monastery gardens, and it's still used in modern skincare because the science backs up what herbalists always knew!
