Cartwheel

/ˈkɑːrtwil/ noun, verb

Definition

An acrobatic move where you flip sideways with your hands and feet in the air, or a large coin that's worth a lot of money.

Etymology

From 'cart' + 'wheel'—the move literally looks like a wheel rotating, which is how it got its name. As slang for money, it comes from the large silver coins that were sometimes called cartwheels.

Kelly Says

The acrobatic cartwheel and the coin called a 'cartwheel' are two completely different things that share a name—the coin was actually worth money (old English silver dollars), making it both a gymnastic move AND a fortune!
