Catechists

/ˈkætəkɪsts/ noun

Definition

People who teach religion using a catechism, a systematic set of questions and answers; religious instructors or teachers.

Etymology

From 'catechist' (one who catechizes), from Greek 'katechizo' (to instruct orally). The '-ist' suffix identifies the person performing the action of catechizing.

Kelly Says

Medieval catechists were like the apps of their time—they standardized religious teaching so a farmer in England and a farmer in Spain would learn the same doctrine the same way. This consistency was powerful for institutional religion but also made questioning that doctrine dangerous.
