Definition
Relating to or derived from the brain; specifically, relating to cerebronic acid, a fatty acid found in brain tissue myelin.
Etymology
From Latin cerebrum (brain) + -onic (relating to). In biochemistry, cerebronic acid is a long-chain fatty acid essential for myelin formation.
Kelly Says
Cerebronic acid is absolutely critical for forming myelin, the fatty coating on nerve fibers—without it, babies can develop Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a devastating disease where the white matter of the brain literally disintegrates.
