Definition
A genus of small songbirds commonly known as treecreepers, which are skilled at climbing tree bark in search of insects.
Etymology
From Latin 'certhia', derived from Greek 'kerthios', referring to a small climbing bird. The term has been used since classical times to describe these agile foragers.
Kelly Says
Treecreepers (Certhia) are nature's little acrobats—they can climb down tree trunks headfirst, something most birds cannot do, because their tail feathers are specially stiffened to act like a woodpecker's support system.
