Definition
Any reptile belonging to the order Chelonia, such as a turtle or tortoise; or an adjective describing something related to these shelled reptiles.
Etymology
Derived from Greek 'chelone' (turtle) with the suffix '-ian' meaning 'belonging to or characteristic of.' This adjectival form became the common English term for both the animals and their properties.
Kelly Says
Chelonians have a unique superpower: they can retract their heads and limbs into their shells for protection, and some species can hold their breath underwater for months during hibernation!
