Definition
A military raid or cavalry expedition in medieval warfare, especially one conducted by mounted soldiers to plunder enemy territory.
Etymology
From Old French 'chevachée,' derived from 'cheval' (horse), the term describes mounted raids that were a common medieval military tactic used to devastate enemy lands and supply lines.
Kelly Says
Chevachees were basically medieval scorched-earth campaigns on horseback—armies would sweep through countryside burning crops and villages to starve out the enemy, and it became such a common tactic in the Hundred Years' War that entire regions were devastated.
