Definition
Third person singular of chevy (to chase), or plural noun referring to chevies or Chevrolet vehicles.
Etymology
From the verb chevy derived from the Chevy Chase ballad, or informally as a shortened reference to Chevrolet automobiles, which became colloquially known as 'chevies.'
Kelly Says
By the early 1900s, 'chevy' was so well-known as a car nickname that Chevrolet's marketing couldn't fight it—people just called them chevies, and the company eventually embraced it, turning a verb from a 600-year-old ballad into a car model name.
